Employment Opportunity- Brandon IRS Project

Overview: 

We are excited to be hiring a student for a research position. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a team that supports Sioux Valley Dakota Nation and the Brandon Indian Residential School Project. This position is great way to get familiar with archaeology fieldwork and be familiar with historical research.

Please understand that this position is important, but challenging work – psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. And the successful candidate should:

  • Be interested in this position and understand the need to seriously consider if they would feel comfortable working with residential school subject matter and specifically the Brandon Residential School cemeteries
  • Understand the nature of the work is sensitive – it will be important to have a support network in place

About the Role:

  • Archaeology fieldwork (GIS mapping)
  • Archival/historical research (online)
  • Law and policy research (protection of cemetery and sacred sites)
  • Assist the community liaison with tasks

Qualifications:

  • Preferred but not limited to be a postsecondary student and returning in the fall
  • Preferred age requirement 18-30
  • Must have access to personal computer
  • Driver’s license & reliable vehicle considered an asset
  • Preferred SVDN Band member
