SVDN Education Notice (2020.10.02)

Attention All Parents, Guardians, Students, and Community Members;

For the safety of our students, it has been decided to continue in phase 3 until January 29th, 2021. The COVID-19 situation will be reassessed at that time. Further announcements to follow.

We will continue to provide homework packages to our students. Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday (October 6th and 7th), homework package #2 and some technology will be delivered. There will be video links to the teacher’s lessons included in these packages for grades 5 to 12 as we are waiting for the second half of the iPad order to be delivered. No date has been given at this point from Apple. Technology will also be signed out to support this online learning for all those students who have registered for our school system and have completed the registration process. Parents/guardians will be responsible for the safe handling and storage of the borrowed technology. All students will be issued an email account in order to connect with our teachers in online learning. Prior to the dispersal of the technology and school emails, Parents/Guardians and students will be required to sign a waiver form. This will be available upon delivery of packages. No technology will be issued without a completed form. For all those who have connectivity concerns, please contact the program manager at Dakota Net – (204) 855-2532.

For those students who have not submitted any completed homework to our drop off box as of October 15th, staff will be contacting home to return the borrowed technology. It is imperative that students hand in their assignments as they complete them. Also, students will be needing as much support from parent/guardians as possible. Staying connected with teachers via email and/or phone calls to help support parents and students is also very highly recommended. Reminder that the homework drop box is located outside the local elementary school site near the gym entrance. Also, please have your name on everything (all papers) that are dropped off. All this work that is submitted will be used to determine grade levels for report cards. If students, grades 9 to 12, do not submit any work back to teachers prior to October 15th, 2020, they will be considered non-students and will be removed from courses enrolled in.

Special education students will continue to be contacted for one-on-one sessions with resource teachers as scheduled. Resource teachers will be in contact with specific parents in regards to this scheduling. All PPE and physical distancing protocols will be followed.

Please enjoy the teacher videos. This is our first time doing this type teaching. We look forward to the creativity teachers will develop as the months move forward. If there are any concerns with video links, please email teachers your concerns. Grades 7 to 12 students, when you open up your laptops, you will notice your email is opened. The links have been emailed to you prior to your receiving the laptop. Inside your technology bag, you will find your email address and a letter addressed to each student. Please be patient with all new processes that are occurring as we will come across hurdles from time to time but we will overcome them. If there are any troubles at all, please contact your child’s school.

We thank Chief and Council, the Education Committee, and all community members for their continued support. COVID-19 is a serious risk factor for everyone’s safety, rest assured Sioux Valley Education has your children’s safety, staff safety, and the entire community’s safety at the forefront of all decisions.

Sincerely,

Sioux Valley Administration
