Notice of Election

Election of the Chief and five (5) Councillors
Under the authority of the Sioux Valley Dakota Oyate Election Law, an election for the position of the Chief and five (5) Councillors of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation for a two (2) year term shall be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. local time for the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation at the Veterans Memorial Centre (Band Hall).
Due to the ongoing Canada Post mail strike, Electors may make a written request to the Electoral Officer to vote online, along with a copy of their proof of identity. Online voting will be open on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
If an Elector wants to receive a mail-in ballot, they must make a written request (mail in ballot request form) to the Electoral Officer that includes a copy of their proof of identity in accordance with the Sioux Valley Dakota Oyate Election Law and Constitution.
If your written request for online voting or a mail-in ballot is received by November 7, 2025, the requested link or mail-in ballot package, as applicable, will be mailed or delivered to you. A Public Forum will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Veterans Memorial Centre (Band Hall) starting at 6 p.m.
The counting of votes will take place at the Band Hall, immediately following the close of the polls.
