The Intergovernmental Relations Implementation Department (IRID) is giving notice to the Community of SVDN of the New Directives for the ’26-’27 fiscal year:
Five Directives
We will be establishing Boards/Committees to make amendments to four of the Directives. Electoral Officer training will be open to everyone.
1. Constitutional Amendments
2. Election Law Amendments
3. Leadership Law (new)
4. Lands Law Additions
5. Electoral Officer Training
(open to members and non-members of SVDN)
Making the necessary Amendment(s) with some of these Directives may be completed in shorter time frames than others. There are three (3) age groups that will be tasked with making Amendments, one age group will be tasked with taking on an additional Directive, as there are four (4) Directives in total.
Once the Boards/Committees are established we have from May 2026 to January 2027 to complete the necessary Amendment(s) changes.
Age Demographics
IRID will be implementing the Age Demographics to make the necessary Amendments/changes to each of the four (4) Directives.
One of the Age Demographic groups will be tasked with working on two Directives, as some of the Amendments will not be lengthy in time to make the necessary amendments. Voting on the Amendments/changes may be staggered and may be completed before January 2027.
The Age Demographics are:
– 18 – 34 yrs
– 35 – 54 yrs
– 55+ yrs
Electoral Officer Training
Electoral Officer training is open to everyone over the age of (18) eighteen years, members and non-members are encouraged to take the training for possible future employment with First Nations Elections.
More information will be posted once an Electoral Training facilitator is found. IRID is encouraging the members of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation to take part in these Directives, many more Laws will be coming up and will need to be voted on. Accountability and Transparency are always at the vocal point for Sioux Valley as well as other First Nations communities across Canada.
