Proposed Amendment to Sioux Valley Dakota Oyate Election Law #2015.11.27-01
The current SVDN Election Law was passed in November 2015 and was utilized to run both the 2016 and 2018 Chief and Council elections. Based on the experience and feedback from these last two elections, it was identified that there needed to be additional enhancements to this law to ensure it will run more smoothly for the next SVDN election.
An Election Law Review Committee was developed to undertake a review of the current law, engage with community members and develop an amended Election Law. The Committee met over the course of a year and are presenting information on the recommended changes to this proposed Election Law.
Please join us to review the proposed changes and to hear and talk with Committee. The Committee is hosting these online sessions and will be participating in the in-person sessions on April 7 in Brandon, April 8 in Winnipeg, and April 14 & 15, 2021 in SVDN. In addition, Information packages including the current law, proposed law, side by side comparison and calendar have been provided to each home on reserve and have been mailed to off reserve members. We encourage SVDN members to review the proposed amendments and take the opportunity to dialogue with Committee to ask questions and make an informed decision for the upcoming Community Approval Process.
Mail out ballots will be provided to all SVDN members that live outside SVDN, with advance polls in Winnipeg on April 23, Brandon on April 24 with a final poll in SVDN on April 29, 2021.
