Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has a role to play in “flattening the curve” in order to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

Since emerging from Wuhan, China, in late 2019, the coronavirus has spread to more than 177 countries.

To date, it has infected over 1,289,380 people globally, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, with 70,590 deaths.

The outbreak has been recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, prompting many countries and communities alike to impose so-called lockdown measures in order to contain the spread.

Sioux Valley Dakota Nation continues to call on all members to implement a comprehensive approach, with the aim of slowing down transmission and flattening the curve. This strategy includes social distancing, cough etiquette, strict hand hygiene, avoiding crowds, and eliminating unnecessary trips outside of the community – now is not the time for travel, now is the time to stay home.

This approach will save lives.
