The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) is committed to taking action against anti-Indigenous racism
The Restorative Practices Program is here to help when an Indigenous person has experiences racism accessing medical care in Manitoba.
This program is a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action #22, as we centre the approach on Indigenous practices and teachings.
Call to Action #22:
We call upon those who can effect change within the Canadian health-care system to recognize the value of Aboriginal healing practices and use them in the treatment of Aboriginal patients in collaboration with Aboriginal healers and Elders where requested by Aboriginal patients.
How can the program help you?
The program is Indigenous-led and can support you in several ways:
-Listen to your concerns about anti-Indigenous racism in medical care.
-If you choose to, we can support you to address current or past harms you or someone you know experienced in receiving medical care by Manitoba physicians, residents, students, clinical assistants, or physician assistants.
-To build relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples, communities, and organizations to create safety in sharing your experiences about anti-Indigenous racism in medical care.
