The Intergovernmental Relations Implementation Department is giving notice to the community of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Oyate of new directives requiring community participation in the review and amendment process
Directives Under Review
1. Constitutional Amendments
2. Election Law Amendments
3. Leadership Law
4. Lands Law Additions
Purpose
The Department is establishing Committee(s) to review, discuss, and develop amendments to the above directives. These committee(s) ensure the proposed changes reflect collaborative, input, cultural values, and good governance practices.
Committee Structure
To ensure balanced representation, members will be selected rom the following age groups:
- 18 to 34 years
- 35 to 54 years
- 55 years and older
Each committee will include representation from all three groups.
Commitment Timeline
- Duration: Approximately 1 year
- Final community voting on proposed amendments: January
Some directives may require shorter or longer review periods depending on detail.
Roles & Responsibilities
Selected members will be responsible for:
- Reviewing current laws and policies
- Identifying necessary amendments
- Participating in community consultations
- Drafting proposed changes for consideration
Eligibility / Selection
Community members who are interested in serving are invited to apply. Selection will aim to ensure fairness, balance and representation across all age groups.
