SV School Annual Pow Wow (2018.06.07)

On the afternoon of June 7, 2018, Sioux Valley School held its annual Pow Wow for the youth, celebrating another successful year of education. Bill Taylor was on hand to MC the festivities which not only included the Pow Wow, but a BBQ lunch. This year, the youth and people in attendance welcomed a special guest, Bridgette Lacquette. Bridgette is Metis, and grew up in Mallard, Manitoba. She is the first First Nations woman to play for the Canadian Women’s Olympic Hockey Team and won a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games. She participated in the Grand Entry and was gifted a Star Blanket, a traditional ribbon skirt and a beaded team Canada medallion. As the pow wow continued, Bridgette spent the afternoon posing for picture =s and speaking with our youth. We were honored to welcome her to our community. She is an excellent role model for our youth.
