Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has taken immediate steps to secure six (6) modular classrooms for our Grade 9–12 students for the upcoming school year. Despite previous claims that funding had been secured for a new high school, we have now received confirmation from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) that no funding has been committed for design or construction at this time.
With serious health and safety concerns identified at the current Brandon facility, including asbestos contamination and limited curriculum support, leadership and the School Board acted quickly to ensure students have access to safe, community-based classrooms for the fall.
These modular units will:
- Provide a clean, safe learning environment
- Keep students connected to family and community
- Ensure continuity in education while long-term solutions are pursued
Included is ISC’s official letter confirming the funding status and renderings of the modular classroom setup.
More updates will be shared soon.
