Angela Chalmers, retired track and field athlete, 1992 Olympic bronze medalist in the 3000m, and a three-time Commonwealth gold medalist, paid a welcome visit to our very own Sioux Valley School. Chalmers, who currently resides in Australia, was back in Canada to received the Order of Sport as a member of the Class of 2024, marking her induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. She came to Sioux Valley School to speak with our youth and encourage them to believe in themselves, believe in their community and believe in their culture. Though none of the students we old enough to have seen her accomplishments, many recognized her from the display case in Sioux Valley School, which has proudly displayed Chalmers’ 1992 Olympic Track Suit and photo since the early 1990’s. Chalmers was welcoming with all the students and staff and took the time to speak to all those who approached her and graciously took photos with all who asked. Sioux Valley Dakota is thankful to Angela for her visit and have always been proud of her, her accomplishments and her ties with SVDN.
Thank You Angela for always being an inspiration.
