SVDN Education Notice: Excessive Phone Use in the School (2026.01.13)

Regarding: Excessive phone use in the school.

This notice serves as a formal reminder regarding the restrictions on cell phone and personal electronic device usage at Sioux Valley School. These rules are in direct alignment with Manitoba Provincial Education directives and our Student Handbook to ensure a safe, focused, and respectful learning environment.

Cell Phones and Electronic Communication Devices

Electronic communication devices possessed by students may not be used in school buildings during instructional hours including all breaks. With the exception of emergency calls made in the office. Devices must be “off”, “silenced” or kept at home. Zero Tolerance for all K-8 students as defined by the provincial educational guidelines.

Grade 9-12 High School

1) High school students will be required to hand in their cell phones to the teacher at the beginning of class, and will pick it up at the end of class.

2) If the student refuses to turn in their cell phone, the parent/guardian will be contacted to pick it up. If parents/guardians are unable to pick up the cell phone, students will be asked to turn it in to the Vice-Principal/Principal and they will be allowed to take their home at the end of the day.

3) Refusal to give up their cell phone will be an automatic suspension for the day and parent/guardian will be contacted to pick up the student.
