For purposes of clarification, please be reminded that standard pickup and dropoff points for school buses are determined at the administrative level at the beginning of the school year. It would certainly be preferable to have the bus pull up as close as possible to students’ homes, but myriad factors preclude that option in many cases. Pickup and dropoff points are determined first and foremost in consideration of students safety. School bus drivers, for example, are prohibited from stopping in an area where they would be required to back up in order to leave that area. Some houses are situated in areas that are not safely accessible by school bus, and this requires the student to walk to the nearest pickup/dropoff point. It is understood that a short walk to the bus may not be as convenient as preferred by some students/parents and as such they may not be satisfied with their designated pickup/dropoff point. However, because safety considerations will, in all cases, override matters of convenience, the pickup/dropoff points as presently determined by administration will remain unchanged.
