To All Community Members:
Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is advising all residents that changing weather conditions and rising water levels require us to prepare for the possibility of a flood evacuation.
At this time, no evacuation order has been issued.
However, all residents are asked to remain on 24-hour evacuation preparedness standby.
Community leadership and emergency management personnel are closely monitoring conditions in coordination with provincial and federal partners. Should conditions worsen, an evacuation order may be issued with limited notice.
During the next 24 hours, all households are encouraged to:
- Prepare enough clothing, medications, and personal items for at least 72 hours.
- Gather important documents such as identification, health cards, insurance information, and banking information in a waterproof container.
- Ensure all prescription medications and essential medical equipment are ready to travel.
- Fuel personal vehicles and ensure they are in good working order.
- Arrange for pets by preparing food, medications, leashes, carriers, and vaccination records.
- Check on Elders, neighbours, and family members who may require assistance.
- Charge all cell phones, portable batteries, flashlights, and medical devices.
- Keep informed through official Sioux Valley Dakota Nation communication channels and avoid relying on rumours or unofficial social media posts.
Community emergency personnel are preparing transportation, reception services, and emergency supports should they become necessary.
Residents who require assistance with transportation, have medical concerns, or have mobility challenges are encouraged to notify the Sioux Valley Health Centre immediately so appropriate arrangements can be made.
We understand that these situations can be stressful. This preparedness notice is being issued to provide everyone with sufficient time to prepare while we continue monitoring conditions.
Your cooperation helps ensure the safety of our entire community.
Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
