Sioux Valley Dakota Nation would like to remind all community members that the State of Emergency remains in effect as we continue to closely monitor changing weather conditions, river levels, and the potential for unexpected overland flooding.
While the presence of sandbags throughout the community may be inconvenient, they remain an essential protective measure. Recent events across Manitoba have demonstrated how rapidly conditions can change, and maintaining these flood defenses provides an important safeguard for homes, critical infrastructure, and community services should water levels rise unexpectedly.
We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and cooperation as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our community.
As flood risk assessments continue, “Tiger Dams” that have been determined to be outside of the immediate flood plain risk area will be methodically removed over the coming weeks. This work will be carried out in a planned and systematic manner to ensure that protective measures remain in place where they are still required.
We ask residents to:
Leave all flood protection measures in place unless directed otherwise by Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.
Avoid moving or dismantling sandbags or Tiger Dams.
Continue to monitor official community communications for updates.
Report any signs of flooding or erosion to the appropriate community officials immediately.
