Sioux Valley Dakota Nation purchased Sioux Valley High School (SVHS) in Brandon, Manitoba in 2011. It is currently home to 94 students from grades 9-12.
SVHS places an emphasis on educating students in Dakota traditions, culture and history through offering accredited courses in the Dakota language for students in grades 9-12 and “The History of Sioux Valley” at the grade 11 level. SVHS also offers 25 other mandatory and elective courses as outlined in the Manitoba Provincial Curriculum. All courses are taught by Manitoba certified teachers.
Provincial examinations are conducted in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts. According to the results, SVHS continues to be on par with other provincial schools academically. SVHS has produced approximately 122 graduates to date (2024).
SVHS offers after-school programs which incorporate the Dakota culture in various aspects, as well as academics. Other programs include the Teen Clinic, Mental Health counselling and provide a nutritious breakfast and lunch program.
