Dear Parents, we need your help.
The evidence has been clear for some time now; kids who attend school every day have better long-term success academically than kids who are chronically absent. Check out the graph published by the NCCP way back in 2008:
The formula is a fairly simple one: if kids are not in school, we simply cannot teach them. If kids are in school, they have a significantly better chance of achieving academically, with the eventual result of having success in their lives as adults. The research has been clear on that for some time now.
We had very good attendance rates at the start of the school year but right now those numbers have decreased to an alarming level. Each day I go to all the classrooms to drop in, say good morning to the kids, and check out the attendance. It’s safe to say that fully half of our kids have been absent from school on a regular basis since the Christmas break.
Every day that a child is absent is a lost opportunity for them to learn and advance their levels of academic achievement. Ideally, all kids need to be in school every day.
We are ready every day to teach your kids. We desperately need your help in getting the kids to school so that we can do that. There are some parents who have been sending their children to school every day, and we thank those parents for their efforts. Those kids who attend regularly are doing well academically. We want that same success for all of the kids.
Please help us by making sure your kids get to school every day.
Thank you.
