Criteria For Housing Selection/ Allocation

Upon Receiving Completed Housing Application
Scoring Process Is Completed& Score Is Presented to Housing Committee (Scoring Process Is Attached)
Applicant(s) is put on Housing List (Separated by Family/Single List)
Housing Applicant Is Discussed
Potential tenants are flagged for medical disabilities etc.
Any concerns about potential tenant is discussed amongst Housing Committee
Selection is made with Housing List Provided (Depending on what home(s) are available for allocation.


13. RENTAL HOUSING POLICY

13.1 Establishment of Rental Housing Priorities
a) The Committee will establish annual housing priorities for CMHC rental Housing Units at the discretion of the SVHD. This is based on the following type of rating priority:
35 points – New applicants that have never occupied a Housing Unit on SVDN reserve lands.
30 points – Special needs/medical conditions or disabilities/elders/homeless/families living in hospice shelter/motel/emergency housing need.
25 points – Citizens who are living in overcrowded living conditions.
20 points – If present living conditions do not meet health and safety standards ( documented by written confirmation on file) or if the current house does not meet National Building Code requirements.
15 points – Single parents with children/victims of family violence (no child suppo1i being provided by ex-spouse).
12 points – Does not currently have sufficient income to purchase or own a house, but tenant work plan indicates satisfactory progress is being made towards goal.
10 points – Large families where both parents are SVDN citizens (four ( 4) or more children under sixteen ( 16) years of age).
9 points – Good references from previous landlords and overall credit rating. Good record of maintaining cuffent dwelling (i.e., lack of repetitive maintenance and repairs charged to the Band).
8 points – Ability and willingness to pay occupational charges.
7 points – Smaller families or those where spouse may not be a SVDN citizen.
6 points – Citizens who have been on a waiting list for more than twenty-four (24) months.
5 points – Single adults.
4 points – Willingness to locate where the SVHD detennines appropriate such as in single family Housing Unit, etc.

b) The Committee recommends the option of rotating priorities annually over a three (3) year basis.
c) The SVHD will recommend to Chief and Council those candidates for new houses with consideration given to the rating system/priority list.
