Dakota Nation Winterfest Volleyball Rules:

– Round robin format, followed by single elimination playoffs.

– Round robin matches are 2 sets, cap at 25 or 40 minutes whichever comes first. Playoff matches will be best-of-3 up to 25, win by 2. Third set up to 15, win by 2 if needed. Switch sides at 8 points.
– Teams must be there 15 minutes before their game times. Referees are going to be strict on times. Everyone’s time is precious so be there early for your matches and get on the court when the previous match is over. NO GRACE TIME!!

– Teams will have no warm-up hitting during round robin games as we are on a strict time schedule. Playoffs will have warm-up hitting depending on the time.

– Before the game, a coin flip will be used to determine serve and reception.

– In round robin and playoffs, a team consists of 6 players on the court. A match can happen if a team has 5 players, the missing player will count as a lost serve and a point awarded to their opponent. Cannot play the match with 4 players.

– A player or all players MUST play one robin game to be eligible to play in playoffs. And only roster players will be allowed to play.

– If there are any ties after round robin, it will go by points for against (basically a plus minus). If it is still tied, there will be a coin flip.

– Max team limit for women’s is 25 teams, and the max team limit for men’s is 16.

– 20 women’s teams will advance to playoffs, and all 12 men’s teams will advance to playoffs. It’s happening this way because there won’t be enough time for all the playoffs games there would be if I allowed all 25 womens teams to make playoffs. Plus, with the mens division not reaching the max amount there is less games in there division and makes it easy to have all their teams make playoffs. Brandon University is on a strict time schedule as well. Also, finishing early will give the tournament staff, and Brandon University enough to time to take down the nets and get teams on their way.

– This year, being a new facility, we are required to pay the gym rental fee. So, a portion of each teams entry fee will be going towards the gym fee. Teams have asked for a better facility, you got it!!

– Bring your own volleyballs to warm up, game ball will be provided.

– A roster sheet must be filled out before or after your teams first match. This is for individual awards purposes and to display where each team is from. ONLY players on the roster will be allowed to play.
– A player or all players must play one round robin game to be eligible to play in playoffs.

– Each team is allowed one non-indigenous player.

– Protest fee is $500 (Non-Refundable)

– After the shared hitting and serving, if a team doesn’t show up or have enough players, they will forfeit. THERE IS NO GRACE TIME! If both teams don’t show up, they each will be given a default loss

– If the ball hits the roof, it will be called as out and the point will be awarded to the opponent.

– The official has complete authority over the discipline for infractions and may halt the play at any time if it is deemed appropriate.

– Any abuse or harassment to any facility members, officials, volunteers, players, or scorekeepers will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely.

– Teams or players displaying outbursts or poor sportsmanship shall be warned and if it reoccurs will be liable to be disqualified from the tournament.

– Fighting will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in an altercation will be kicked out of the premises and may face further disciplinary action.

– The losing team after each playoff game MUST send 2 individuals to be line judges

– The honour system will be in effect for touches off the block or off an attack. So please, be honest and call your touches.

– Line referees will be provided for playoffs, which will be two players from the winning team in both divisions for playoffs.

– Please pick up your garbage and keep your areas clean. Please show respect for the facility you are playing in.

– All other volleyball rules apply.

Thank you for participating in the Dakota Nation Winterfest Volleyball Tournament 2024
