2026 Essay Question
How can independent retailers deepen customer relationships in innovative ways that boost their competitive edge in a fast-changing, dynamic market; and motivate more young Canadians to explore independent retail as a rewarding career?
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: AUGUST 17, 2026
ELIGIBILITY:
Must work for a current CFIG member (retail, associate, affiliate) OR be a family member of an employee of a current CFIG member
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
· A 1,000-word essay with a reference page including properly cited sources.
· A short video telling us which independent grocer(s) you consulted for your essay.
AWARDS
· Grand Prize: $15,000 CAD PLUS a trip to Grocery Innovations Canada (GIC) in
Toronto, to accept your award at the Independent Grocer of the Year Awards Gala!
· 4 Regional Scholarships: $3250 CAD each!
