Sioux Valley Education and TD Read to Succeed Program (2020.01.21)

On January 21, 2020, students at Sioux Valley School had some surprise visitors, which were none other than Brandon Wheat Kings #18 Marcus Sekundiak and #21 Duncan Pierce.

The Brandon Wheat Kings are apart of Wheat Kings TD Read to Succeed Program which allows players to visits school and talk about the importance of reading and encourage skills that will help young students become better students for years to come.

The players were able to read many books to the three groups of students from Kindergarten to grade 6. Children had tons of questions for the players: such as the players’ favourite colours, favourite hockey teams and what their pre-game rituals were. Most of the children expressed an interest in hockey, either wanting to learn or currently playing.

The Wheat Kings players stressed the importance of reading and how it can help them become better students in the future. Sharing their education goals and hockey career goals with the students helped them understand how reading creates building blocks to being the best students they can be.

Wheat Kings TD Read to Succeed Program was able to donate 200 storybooks and signed bookmarkers to each child in our school.

‘The TD Read to succeed program is on of the most important and impactful community initiatives the Wheat Kings are involved with.”
