SVDN Employability, Employment, Empowerment Conference (2018.03.21)

On March 21, 2018, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation held its first Employability, Employment, Empowerment Conference. The conference brought presenters to the community to speak on topics such as entrepreneurship, résumés, personable skills, volunteering, and personal skills and appearance. Sioux Valley welcomed presentations from Debra Soldier-Tacan of Dakota Beads, Kendal Netmaker of Neechie Gear, Leona McIntyre – Economic Development Specialist, Shannon Carvey of 4H and Career and Employment Youth Services Brandon. The day was MC’d by Bill Taylor, who is always willing to step forward and help, and was facilitated by our Mature 12 program with assistance from SVDN Employment and Training and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. SVDN Council member Elton Taylor had some final words of thanks, advice and encouragement for those in attendance to end the conference. We hope to have more of these events in the future.
