September 22, 2018 marked another historic event in the history of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. The days started at approximately 2:30 pm when Grand Opening ceremony for the SVDN owned Petro-Canada service station commenced with community members, Elders, SVDN Chief and Council, as well as several dignitaries, including the Honourable Carolyn Bennet, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, the Honourable Eileen Clarke, Manitoba Minister of Indigenous and Northern Relations, MP Larry McGuire, MLA Doyle Piwiniuk, Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest, Virden Mayor Jeff McConnel and Sifton Councillor Stan Cocherane.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, SVDN Chief and Council, Elders and dignitaries all proceeded to the SVDN Self-Government office boardroom and held a meet and greet with visiting dignitaries. They discussed the bright future ahead for Sioux Valley Dakota Nation with the 3 announcements being held this day. At the conclusion of the meet and greet, many posed for photos with elders and members in attendance, then proceeded to the Sioux Valley Veterans Hall for the announcements.
The Sioux Valley Veterans Hall would be the location where the three announcements would be made. The first announcement to be made was the addition to reserve land for the 80 acres on which the SVDN Petro-Can currently operates. The second announcement was the official grand opening of Dakota Tiwahe Services with support from the Provincial and Ferdal government. The third and final announcement would be the official signing of the Reconciliation Framework Agreement.
Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has a lot to be proud of.
